Top 4 Most Anticipated Games of 2013

Despite the impending release of the PS4 and Xbox One, there are still a slew of great games to be released on current consoles and PC this year. Here’s a list of my top 4 most anticipated games:

Total War: Rome II
Total War is a long running series distinguished by its mix of RTS and turned based strategy. The latest incarnation is set in the Mediterranean when Rome was at its peaks.  Despite the games title there are diverse factions like the Spartans and Egyptians to play. The Total War series features spectacular battles which you can view from the sky, or get right into the action at an individual level. The period and geographic setting in Rome II has me extremely excited, Creative Assembly have an eye for authenticity which will only add to the atmosphere. I can’t wait to see Roman Legionnaires face off against war elephants.

Rayman Legends
Rayman Origins was a surprise hit last year. With little fanfare it fell right into my heart. I’d been bereft of a good platformer to play for years and Rayman Origins was fantastically refreshing. The platforming was pitch perfect, the levels diverse and colourful, and the art style gorgeous. The game managed to be challenging in later stages, especially the secret Land of the Livid Dead, but always rewarding. Rayman Legends looks to carry on the brilliance of the last game.

Grand Theft Auto V
A game that should surely need no introduction. GTA V looks to improve on its predecessor while adding interesting new features. For the first time in the series, the game features 3 protagonists, with the ability to switch between them at will. The stat system from San Andreas is back and better than ever, as well as planes! The city of Los Santos and its surrounding countryside exude personality. Kavinsky, who contributed to the film Drive’s soundtrack, has his own radio station. GTA V should be nothing short of amazing.

South Park: The Stick of Truth
If you aren’t a fan of South Park maybe you should stay away from this one, even if the brilliant Obsidian is taking the helm. Trey Parker and Matt Stone have taken an active role in making sure the game is authentic to the show. Obsidian are the best writers in gaming and so far have managed to capture the humour of South Park. The RPG features turn based combat and is set in a 2D plane which should make life simpler for Obsidian; notorious for releasing buggy and unpolished games. This mix of authentic South Park, great dialogue and RPG goodness are irresistible.

2013 is looking to be fantastic.
